Curried Vegetable/Chickpea Soup

Ingredients
Curried Vegetable Soup

Curried Vegetable Soup

1  large onion, diced.

2  cloves of garlic, diced.

2  medium carrots, diced.

3  stalks of celery, diced.

2  large potatoes, diced.

1  large zucchini.

1  red skinned sweet potato

2  large cans of chickpeas

1  litre of vegetable stock

3 tablespoons of Massaman curry paste (thai style).

Pinch of salt.

**  With this recipe you can add any blend of vegetables  **

Method

Place the garlic and onions into a large pot with a little olive oil.  Lightly saute, and then add the curry paste.  Throw in the remaining vegetables and all of the stock.  Give this a good stir and bring to the boil.  Wash the chickpeas and drain them, then add to the pot.  When the soup has come to boil, turn down the heat to a gentle simmer.  Leave on simmer until all the vegetables are cooked.  When serving soup, you may like to leave as is, or you put through the blender.  Either way, they both taste delicious.

Stop Nail Biting

How many people do you know  bite their finger nails ?

Finger nail science

Finger nail science

It’s a habit that we can grow out of in our younger years, or not,  and if not it can last well into our adult years.

There are so many germs sitting under our nails, ugh!    It looks so unattractive and the gnawed result looks worse, so why keep on doing it !

Well, for myself  I started at a young age, but was able to give up just before my teenage years.  Mind you it wasn’t easy.  I tried the very nasty tasting polish painted on my nails, or what was left of them to try and stop biting – didn’t work for me.  Even constant nagging from my parents – didn’t work.  My cure was a result of  peer group pressure, the greatest influence in a young person’s life.  Because I wanted to have lovely painted finger nails like my girlfriends, and the only way to do this was to stop biting and grow them.

Another solution that I know worked for a young person to stop their nail biting, was to offer a reward.  It had a stop / start effect, but after 4 months it eventually had a positive result.  And the child has not returned to nail biting.  It might be an idea to not deliver the reward for a couple weeks, just to make sure the nail biting doesn’t resume.  (Sounds harsh, but the results are proof this was the right thing to do).

NAIL CARE TIPS

To keep your nails looking healthy, try eating  foods that contain oils,  include  fish and nuts in your healthy eating plan.

Use a nail file and scissors to maintain your nails, don’t  trim with your teeth.

If you like to decorate your nails, remember nail polish remover does dry out your nails, so give your fingernails a break between applications, to let the natural shine return.

Head Lice Home Remedy

Getting Rid of Head Licelouse and eggs

Don’t be embarrassed if your child comes home from school with head lice, every family at some time has experienced it, unfortunately it is a pest that is here to stay.  Remember if you get in early to treat your child’s hair, you can break the breeding cycle.   Always report any head lice to your child’s class teacher – discreetly of course, because they will keep an eye out for any child that is scratching continuously, and is obviously not being treated.  If this is not done then new cases will keep reappearing, and the frustration will continue.

When you first notice your child scratching, check their hair and other family members, and try the following remedy, it worked well for my kids.    Also wash their hats, bedlinen (especially the pillowcase, and air doonas and pillows in the sun), and please encourage your children not to share hats, and definitely don’t use other peoples hair brushes and combs.

Ingredients

A very fine toothed comb.
A cheap bottle of  hair conditioner.
Bath towel.

Method

Place liberal amounts of conditioner on the hair, comb through until all hair is covered with conditioner.   This is to smother the lice, and make removal of the eggs easier, as they will slide of the hair shaft (head lice love dry hair, because they can get a strong grip on the hair – and not slip off).                                    Continue combing the hair, remember to wipe the comb each time, so as not to put the eggs back onto the hair.  When you think there are no more foreign bodies showing on the comb, then wrap the hair in a towel and leave on overnight, if possible.    Next morning  rinse the conditioner off, DO NOT USE SHAMPOO – you don’t want dry hair.   Then reapply a small amount of conditioner, and tie back hair . If  possible leave hair tied up until the following morning and then rinse out the conditioner.   This process needs to be repeated in 3- 5 days time, just when any eggs left behind are due to hatch.     If there are no more signs of eggs after the second treatment, it should now be safe to return to the normal hair cleansing routine.      Hopefully, your child will now free of head lice for the rest of their schooling years – Hmmm, but do continue to check your child’s hair and the rest of the family until you know this nasty pest has left your household – until the next outbreak.      Please leave me a comment, I love feedback on any of my tips !

Best Tips for Shaping your Blog

My blog will be about sharing any funny stories that have happened during your day to day family life, an endless event you might say.  Because every day there is some family instance or mishap (not too serious) that has put a smile on your face.

Whilst this blog in under construction,  please read the following blogging tips to help you in your blog page setup.    Especially for those bloggers that are just starting out.

CLARITY  GIVES  YOU  PURPOSE.

  • People trust blogs more than websites because blogging is a conversation, this lowers the barriers for the average person to contribute and your blog becomes a two-way communication tool.
  • Search engines like Google reward sites that publish valuable content on a consistent basis.  This increases your ranking, and in turn attracts potential marketing and services advertisers.

WITHOUT  TRAFFIC  NO  BLOG  MAKES  MONEY

  • Start with a ‘pillar’ article, a unique thought or theory.  This can be about your interests or some other personal passion, something you can expand on.
  • The blogger works to attract attention, and then you can channel that audience onto your advertised sites, links, reviews etc – these are referred to as ‘income generators’.

CONTENT  +  MARKETING  =  TRAFFIC

  • ‘Strategies and Tactics’ are two important considerations.    Having a strategy in place helps you understand outcomes and  predict future results, ie increase traffic, obtain sponsors or build links.    Plan you tactics, like leaving comments on other blogs with a link back to your blog, type text-links into your content or advertisements – these are some features that lead to blogging profits.
